Haphazard Mask Channeling

As in “the Voodoo of new Orleans is just Haphazard Mask Channeling”…

Basically, it’s a skill, albeit a supernatural one. Its a very very limited type of magic, too freeform to be Thaumaturgy and too limited to be a school….

Anyway, on to the Crunchy Bits…

Soul Based Skill: Haphazard Mask Channeling.

You are a practitioner of some kind of mask-based religious magic, probably voodoo, but it could be something catholic and saint based, or anything else for that matter.

It gives you a taster of the world of the Avatar, but not much else. You temporarily become a conduit for a small part of the power of an Archetype which you know through a Mask.

The mechanics are like this…

Roll your Haphazard Mask Channeling skill and name a mask for an archetype which you are trying to channel.

If you get a critical success, then you gain the Avatar: Archetype you were trying to channel skill at a level equal to your Haphazard Mask Channeling skill for the duration of the ritual.

If you get a matched success, you get access to the first channel of the Archetype you were trying to channel

If you get an ordinary success you get the first level channel from some other Archetype which you know through a mask

If you get an ordinary failure, nothing happens

If you get a matched failure, you get a Demon

If you get a fumble, your mind gets overwhelmed by the archetype you were trying to channel for an indefinate period. You can be considered to be running around acting all primal for the nest few days.

If Haphazard Mask Channeling is your Obsession skill then you get the archetype you want on a normal success, a matched success gives you access to the first two channels rather than just the first

  1. Insect King says:

The player should tailor a set of preferences based on the Mask roll much like the channels of Archetypes.

First choice – 1st channel only.

    Second choice – 1st and 2nd channels

    Third choice – 1st to 3rd channels.
