The brick counter

A strange device made by a man losing his head.

No, I don’t know how much that thing’s worth. I just need some cash, it’s yours for 100 bucks.

My father gave it to me. It was made by my grandfather. He had Alzheimer, or something like that. You know, losing his head, always stuck in his workshop. He made me a handful of toys, you know, old style stuff, like clockwork soldiers and steam trains.

When he died, my father found that thing on a table at his workshop. It took some time to figure out what’s that thing. I mean, it just looked like a copper box with a key and a counter.

Well, my friend, it’s a brick counter. You wind up the thingie, put it against a wall, wait fifteen second or so, and when you hear a “ding”, the counter shows how many bricks the wall is made of.

Don’t ask how I figured that, please. It would be too long for me to explain. And don’t ask what use my granddad made that for. And don’t tell me why you look so interested. Just gimme the bucks.

But that’s just it, isn’t it? What if there’s a Very Good Reason someone made a brick-counter… nothing good can come from that, I assure you.
