The Lost Crown

Proof that nobility is all in the blood.

Cost: 2 significant Charges

Effect: Simply, this ritual makes the caster part of the nobility. Any and all magick rituals, esoteric effects or divination related to nobility will treat the caster as though they were noble. It does not provide any evidence, bonuses, land, actual titles, actual lineage or anything else. You’re just a noble.

Any attempt to divine where the caster is a noble of will return the country that it is cast (see bottom of article for corner cases). Likewise, if magick is used to ask what kind of noble the caster is, it will always be baronet.

Ritual actions: Get your hands on a goat. Kill, butcher and gut the goat, saving every bit of it, cook as much of you can and take everything inedible and put it in a bowl full of something incendiary. Take a portion of the blood and make a ring around your forehead (did I mention that you’ll need a shaved head?) then light the inedible bits on fire while chowing down on the rest. So long as you finish it all, and the leavings are consumed, you’re good to go.

Easier than dealing with the queen of England, right?

Corner cases notes: Because PC’s tend to do strange things, the GM is advised to be as flexible as possible when coming up with what country the “noble” is read as having title in. If they’re on a ship with French registration, the divination comes out french. America has a flag on the moon, so the moon is “part of America” for purposes of these rules. If they do something too weird for even that, they get an “I don’t know” from wherever they’re using.

Sadly, most of Antarctica is carved into territories by nations looking to do research.

That having been said, I have a friend who swears up and down that he uncovered a “Lord Thing, Baron of the Mountains of Madness.” Of course, he’s a terminal drunk, so what does he know?

Venus would probably be Russia, since the Soviet Union landed the most probes there. Of course, I have no idea how player characters would GET to Venus, much less survive to tell about it.

Yes, but they’re the player characters. Spending months learning dark rituals and making deals with squiggly things just to become the ruler of Venus is something they’d do.

True, it was just that, off the top of my head, I was coming up blank with anything in the books which would let them do that. (Of course, some demons would promise them anything just to play around in someone’s body for a while.)

If you’re an American in the United States, what would you come out as? Maybe an English baronet, given that the United States was an English colony? Or maybe it relates to your ethnic background, with an XYZ-American becoming a member of the XYZ nobility?

Or maybe the spell effectively makes you a Rockefeller, Kennedy, or Bush?
