The Drunken Jedi

Each drink of alcohol brings him that much closer to the Force…

Darren Smith, Jedi fanatic

Most people consider Darren either a joke or a nuisance. He hangs around in back alleys and deserted lots, with alcohol on his breath and clothes he hasn’t changed in God knows how long. Anyone who tries talking to him discovers that Darren considers himself a Jedi Knight, learning from the message disguised as fiction in Star Wars. Most people conclude that he’s insane. The truth is a little more complex.

When Darren Smith went insane – and he did – he became a Dipsomancer. This provided him with a different kind of sanity, but his particular brand of sanity is further off of normal than most dipsomancers. He views all of his dipsomancer spells as evidence of alcohol bringing him closer to the Force. Other formula spells, and the process of gaining significant or major charges, are unknown to him. He would only accept such things if he could find some way to incorporate them into his current worldview.

Experienced characters who encounter Darren may write him off as a loon, and be surprised when he occasionally has something useful to contribute. Things can be even more interesting with less experienced characters if Darren becomes a significant source if information on the occult. Darren would even be happy to train a PC as a dipsomancer, within the limits of his knowledge. Characters may have a difficult time teasing apart the genuine occult insights from Darren’s personal delusions.
(Is his talk about droids nonsense, or is there a clockworker in town?)

I believe he should have “Just A Harmless Drunk” formula spell also.
Like, “These aren’t the droids you’re looking for” stuff.
Though, I have no idea how will he cast it with no sig charges.

Good write-up of a minor adept. Just gonzo enough not to be taken seriously until he actually pulls something impossible, and probably not even then. I like it.
