The Quiet Libertarian

It’s all about Freedom…..

This was done as something of a joke for a friend of mine who is a Libertarian. Surprisingly, the channels came out to be somewhat interesting. Here’s a glimpse. Be gentle, its my first submission.

The Quiet Libertarian

Attributes: The Quiet Libertarian represents the soft-spoken political rebel. People all over the world, especially in America, see their countries government as unchangeable. They know things should be better, but don?t know how. The Quiet Libertarian has solidified these beliefs: the belief in individual freedom.

Taboos: The Quiet Libertarian is based on personal freedom. Therefore, avatars must not judge others? opinions and choices. Any protesting or superiority by the avatar will result in a weakened line to the archetype.

Symbols: Any patriotic symbols will do.

Masks: Rarely appears in mythology. Mr. Smith (Jimmy Stewart in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.) is an example.

Suspected Avatars: Thomas Jefferson was supposedly the originator of the archetype. He is believed to have ascended on his deathbed. Most other originators of freedom-based third parties have channeled this. Debate still rages as to whether or not Ross Perot was an avatar.

Channels:
1% – 50%: The avatar can protect and defend his opinion or actions. At 15% or higher, the Libertarian can defend his or her position successfully against any opponent. Note that the Libertarian cannot begin the debate itself that would violate taboo. If challenged, however, the avatar cannot prove an opinion right, just not wrong.
Also, the Quiet Libertarian has protection against mind and mood altering effects of Magic or Narcotic sources. If affected, the Liberarian may make an Avatar roll. If successful, the effects (including any Mind or Soul Skill penalties) are negated. (Physical and Speed Skill penalties remain as normal, however.)
51%-75%: The avatar may now break minor laws without legal consequences. This crime cannot directly harm another person. Breaking and entering, drug use, and littering are all acceptable. These will go unnoticed by authorities, unless it is blatant. (Smoking up in front of a cop would be considered blatant.) If the avatar is ?caught? then he or she will be acquitted/released for some reason on a successful Avatar roll.
76%-90%: At this level, the Libertarian can create social contracts. If the avatar makes a verbal agreement with another person or party, then both sides of the agreement will be followed through on, no matter what. Should either party, including the avatar, choose to ignore their side of the bargain, then circumstances will change such that the agreement is followed through on, even to the detriment of both parties. (This direction of circumstances is left in the hand of the GM.)
91%: The Libertarian is now able enjoy all the benefits of his citizenship without the costs. He can blatantly break non-violent laws, avoid taxes, avoid the draft, and break the speed limit, all without feeling the wrath of the government. Note that if the avatar commits actions, private citizens can still retaliate in a non-governmental capacity. So Road Rage can still kill you. This condition is rather paradoxical: the avatar is a nonentity in terms of the government bureaucracy, but can still open bank accounts, gain occupation, etc. However, the Avatar cannot gain direct monetary government benefits such as social security or welfare.
In addition, on a matched success of an Avatar roll, the Libertarian can go completely unnoticed for a number of minutes equal to the matched number (i.e. a 44 allows for 4 minutes.) This is not total invisibility, and ceases to work when a commotion is made. (Attacking in combat counts as a commotion.)

  1. Insect King says:

The taboo is a little too weak or ill-defined for me, but Baldur, Jesus Christ and Mahatma Ghandi make good masks as well. Its the whole Passive Resistance thing.

    Cheers,

    Chris.
