The Rock Star

I wanna be just like them…

Summary: Lovers, maniacs, philosophers, poseurs, murderer’s, victims, icons, celebrities, all in one. They are the legends of all times and true legends never die.

This archetype was suspected to have begun in the time of the troubadours of Spain and France, though others speculate further back than that. These people combine the mystique of the Road Warrior, the aplomb of the Fixer, imagination of the Artist, charm of the Free Man, Flying Woman, and all Libertine’s in general. The bottom line is they are… “forever”, immortalized in stories, song, and epic. Many speculate and claim that they gave birth to this archetype, but no one knows for sure, not even the avatars themselves. Everyone who has emulated the Rock Star are bound to their craft, claim to fame, their dream; a guiding vision that they can draw strength and power from. To them that is all that matters and how others view them is their own deal.

Nowaday’s thanks to media and other sources the archetype is often used to describe anyone who has garnered and commanded the respect, admiration, adulation, idolizing, envy, and hatred of all through nothing but sheer charisma and personality. So, the scope of those who channel this avatar come from nearly all walks of fame and are not limited to musicians and actors alone. They are dreams personified. They have taken all the above about fame and transcended it.

They make it look so easy, as if they were born to it, but anyone who has ever handled fame and popularity knows that it is anything but.

Symbols: (changes every generation or century and also depends on the individual avatars “focus” but here’s the most recent) leather jacket , shades (P. Diddy), breast implants (Pamela Anderson and others claim to fame), trenchcoats, basketball (Kobe Bryant), Tennis racket (Andre Agassi), long hair, tattoo’s, electric guitar, the ‘Star” of celebrities (ex. Hollywood walk of fame stars), their own image (includes impersonator’s of Elvis, Madonna, Marilyn Monroe), concert stages.

Suspected Avatars(or otherwise): Comte de St. Germain, Casanova, Rasputin, JFK, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain(no suicide. Courtney Love wanted his mojo, that’s why she killed him), Michael Jackson(suspected avatar of the Child), Ozzy Osborne, Adolf Hitler (though more suspected to be an avatar of the Dictator or Tyrant) Charles Manson, Ted Bundy, Kobe Bryant, Madonna, Marilyn Monroe, Princess Diana, Mother Theresa, Pope John Paul II, Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, Jackie Chan

Taboo: It’s a sort of lifestyle this gig that you’ve got. So, LIVE it. You should live in the public eye and everything you do reflects on your craft, claim to fame, philosophy, etc. to some degree. Doing anything that the public considers contrary to your persona or image (i.e. Alice Cooper appearing on Sesame Street) will cut you off from the archetype. And redemption in the eyes of this archetype is very, very difficult. Once you become classed as a has-been, it’s hard to make a “comeback”. Though you may have loyal fans, it’s the ability to influence the whole subconscious perception of a populace or the world in your favor that you should be aiming for.

Channels:

1% – 50% Fame – Anyone who sees and recognizes the Rock Star will react with a +20% shift in their most dominant obsession or Passion towards the Rock Star. (ex. A loyal fan who meets Jane Famous will feel more than merely devoted to her, an obsessive fan feels even greater need to satisfy a certain compulsion regarding the Rock Star, a hateful stalker may feel the need to act out their appropriate passion when seeing the Rock Star, etc.) This affects neutral people to feel favorable towards the Rock Star regardless if whether they’re a fan or not, so long as there are no strong feelings of antipathy.

51% – 70% Everything He does is Magic – everything that the avatar does, even those outside of his usual area of expertise can come out smelling like roses and even make failure seem like a triumph(this ability coupled with Fame). He can flip-flop any checks for tasks(including Stress checks) so long as the skill or difficulty required in the roll for an appropriate or knowledgeable person is not above the avatars Rock Star level.

71% – 90% You Know You Love Me – The Rock Star can roll her avatar level to gauge the emotion and perception of any singular or group of people who are regarding, focusing on or even thinking of the Rock Star.

She can roll to manipulate and shift emotions, passions, and obsessions in any number of targets within line of sight or proximity of the Rock Star’s vicinity by up to 20%; so long as the appropriate passions or obsessions are below and once modified do not exceed the Rock Stars avatar level. (this can stack with the first channel).

The avatar can roll her Soul stat against any number of targets to manipulate only a single madness meter(including hardened notches) in the targets. If successful the madness meters of the target(s) become the same as that of the Rock Stars while they are in their general vicinity.

+91% I’m Gonna Live Forever – The avatar can possess or appear to any fan or devotee(obsession or passion is greater than 40%) anywhere in the world. The avatar can make a place for themselves in otherspace reflecting their life, fame, and the peak of their stardom, where they may reside while they’re alive or live there forever when they die. Once dead they can only enter the mundane world through one of their devotees. The avatar while in possession of the fan(who’s unaware of the possession) knows all her skills in addition to sharing the body stats and skills of the avatar or fan (depending on which is greater). When the avatar leaves the fan she will know she was touched by something great but will have little to no side effects and no memory of the possession. Though, there have been instances where a fan will become obsessed with being possessed again.

So long as the avatar retains a fan or devotee loyal to their memory they will maintain their existence and otherrealm in perpetuity. Once no one remembers the Rock Star they will merely start to fade away, how long it takes to completely disappear varies from one avatar to another.

I started writing something like this, though I called it “the Edgewalker”. I scrapped it because my version sucked. Yours is much better.

Envisioning the history of modern music as a gian ascension war makes so much sense.

Many Thanks, I wanted something that would convey the sense of majesty and feelings that rock stars engendered when you meet them.

I’ve meet a few local ones and even if they aren’t well known outside certain circles its still awe-inducing when you meet one.

And i worried if the channels were too weak or was maybe missing something… thanks for allaying some of my jitters. 🙂

I don’t know, I always figured the Rock Star is another mask for the MVP.

    But that’s just me.

    Cheers,

I’m gonna use this one with my Gem and the Holograms UA campaign.

(Seriously. It turns out that old Saturday morning cartoons can be downright spooky.)
